ITALY-THEMED PRESS COMBINES FORCES WITH POPULAR EXPAT BLOGGER
Seattle’s Gemelli Press Brings Michelle Fabio of Bleeding Espresso on Board
Seattle, WA March 12, 2012 – Seattle-based and Italian-themed boutique publisher Gemelli Press (http://gemellipress.com) has teamed up with Michelle Fabio, an American freelance writer and editor who lives in Calabria, Italy and authors the popular blog, Bleeding Espresso (http://bleedingespresso.com).
This partnership is an exciting natural progression for both entities. Fabio has long been an essential online resource about life in Italy and Gemelli Press’s books revolve around various aspects of the Italian culture from learning the language and Italian-American heritage to Italian food and wine.
Gemelli Press’s current authors are already excited about the new team. Beyond the Pasta author Mark Leslie, who has appeared on the Today Show, is a regular contributor to Paula Deen’s website, and has a reoccurring cooking segment on local NBC-affiliate in Montgomery, Alabama, had this to say: “Having had a glorious time working with Kari and Michelle on separate projects, it is a natural fit to join the passionate Italian souls of Gemelli Press and Bleeding Espresso. Independently they are fantastica and now joined together in partnership, well — stupefacente (amazing)!”
Gemelli Press founder Kari Hock created the company out of the passion she felt for the life she came to know and love in Sicily with her twin sons (gemelli in Italian) when her husband was stationed at the Sigonella Naval Air Station. Before the move to Italy, Hock read every book she could on her future home, and while living there, wrote articles on Sicily’s wine scene for the base paper. Her research inspired the idea for Bonu Vinu, a guide to the vines and wines of Eastern Sicily, which is currently receiving a polish for publication. Hock began Gemelli Press in 2007 after the family moved back to the States and has now published five titles with many more in line, including her own.
Fabio has been living in her ancestral village in Calabria, the toe of the boot, since 2003. Her lifelong passion for books is showcased on her blog, on which she has written over 50 reviews and continues to enjoy promoting the work of up-and-coming authors. Fabio has been freelance writing and editing for nearly 10 years, and she is currently the official blogger for LegalZoom.com. Fabio also recently published a profile of Gina DePalma, the James Beard Award-winning pastry chef of Mario Batali’s Babbo restaurant, in Ambassador, the magazine of the National Italian-American Foundation (NIAF).
Both Hock and Fabio are former attorneys who have moved on from the practice of law, and their acquired skills will further propel Gemelli Press forward. Reading and writing, business management, the creation of sound contracts and effective communication are essentials to a successful publishing house, and both Hock and Fabio have extensive training and experience in these areas.
On a more personal level, Fabio brings her invaluable connections to the expat community, Italian language skills, social media proficiency, and most importantly her day-to-day living adventures in southern Italy, providing essential marketing and public relations for Gemelli Press. Hock contributes her extensive knowledge of the publishing industry, creative vision, and exceptional resources to all aspects of the production side.
